Architects of War Historicon Preview

Historicon is almost here! We look forward to seeing everyone at the show!

We have new Architects of War buildings for the Dark Ages and an expansion of our Middle Eastern Range. You can see "modernized" versions of these buildings at the Age of Glory booth to go with the Empress Miniature's moderns. Right around the corner at Eureka USA, Rob can sort you out with some of the new Eureka insurgents, too. These buildings are perfect for colonial and ancient gaming as well.

Gripping Beast - In other Mid East news, we will have the Woodbine Design WWI Range from Gripping Beast on hand. Make sure to check out the Gallipoli game at the show that was featured in Wargames Illustrated - it's quite stunning and highlights these figures. We will also have Teutonic Knights, Vikings, Saxons, Normans, Dark Age civilians and more.

Perry Miniatures - We will have all the plastics and a full stock of metals, including the newest releases. Inventory on the metals will go fast so make us one of your first stops!

Renedra - We will also have the full line of bases, tents, fences and the new pontoon bridge and gravestone set.

Warlord - In addition, we will be carrying the full Trade Range of Warlord at the show. Paul Sawyer from Warlord Games will be right next door to answer your questions and reveal exciting new items not yet released.

American Uncivil War - The curtain finally goes up on our American Uncivil War rule set, but unfortunately it will not be available for sale at the show. You can see it at the booth and we are sponsoring several games run by our mates, Dick and Les. These games are listed on the PEL for Saturday.

Hail Caesar - We are also sponsoring a game run by our chum, Miles, using this exciting new rule set on Friday. The game is already booked but do stop by and check it out. Check out his preparations for the game at http://lairoftheubergeek.blogspot.com

LBMS - We will have a large selection of the LBMS transfers that compliment the figures we carry with us.

Bundle Deals - 'Get Started' bundle deals will be available in limited quantities for those looking to start a new period or expand on one you already collect.

We have a lot to offer any historical gamer so, please drop by even just to say hello!

Cheers

Get Started!

I must confess to a pet peeve. It seems to me that for years now, the "historical" market has suffered from a rather steep entry curve. With the exception of the excellent products from Battlefront, no one seems committed to "putting things together" for someone either doing Historicals for the first time or trying to start a new period. We get lots of questions about "What rules do I use" and "what figures do I need to start with".

Well, with a desire to fix that a bit, we have done two "Get Started" pages in our webstore. The goal is to make it easier for people to start a new period or start gaming historicals for the first time.

Now if you ask a group of historical gamers 'What rules do I use" you get LOTS of answers. We chose to push on Hail Caesar!, Black Powder, and Operation Squad. We like these rules, especially for beginners, for the following reasons:

A) They are widely available. That's important if you want to game with someone else!

B) They are easy to learn, even on your own, if you have to. Again very important.

C) They lend themselves well to one on one play. Again important if you are just getting started and need to rope in a "friend" to give it a go.

D) We have played them all and like them! Important to endorse something you KNOW rather than just sell!

Now I know some of you won't agree, but it's the best we could do and I think it's at least a start.

For old campaigners, we have done the deals without the rule books too so you have a convenient way to expand your current armies or "Get a Start" on a new period.

And of course we did terrain too!

NEW Dark Age Buildings

Gripping Beast Saxons are mustering in front of their homes, readying for war

We are happy to announce the return of some very popular models from the Barb's Bunker line and the start of a new range -The Dark Ages. We are starting with two A Frame houses, very typical of the period and found not only in Saxon England, but on the continent and ranging from the all timber versions of Norway down through what is now France.

This is the all Timber version. Like all of our buildings it has a working metal door.

This is the interior of the Wooden version. Most of the detail is cast in with metal being used for the pot and frame over the fire.

This is the Wattle and Daub version, common throughout Saxon England

The lift off single piece roof reveals the detailed interior on the Wattle and Daub version.

Here a fine fellow from Gripping Beast is standing for a "size' shot.

The Side view.

The rear of both buildings

We have wanted to bring the Dark Age line out since we became the Exclusive North American Distributor for Gripping Beast, but unfortunately other priorities delayed the project. This is the first of many new Dark Age items to come, so stay tuned.

Both the All timber A frame and the Wattle and Daub A frame are easy to assemble kits featuring our fantastic resin and metal detail pieces. The cost is $30 USD per building.

Now, REAL A frames like this typically were built partially below ground level, but that was tough to do without puting these on a hill. We think our compromise works well and they are sized to make a whole village without using the entire table top. More on villages later...

We should have these in the webstore by the end of the day at the latest and they are now ready to ship.

Always 28mm of course....
